Day 1 Portland Itinerary!

Tom McCall Waterfront Park at 9.30am

After a good breakfast, kick start your day with a power blasted walk in the mile long Tom McCall Waterfront Park. This is also an ideal place to view the stunning city's skyline. The park encompasses the Salmon Street Springs Fountain and the Oregon Maritime Center and Museum. You can wander around RiverPlace to check out the charming specialty shops or you can participate in fun boating activities.

Portland Art Museum at 11:30am

Art lovers must visit Portland Art Museum, where you will find Oregon's most prestigious collection - Japanese screen prints, the European masters and contemporary American pieces. The focal point is the museum's Native American gallery, that highlights the modern and ancient works of several tribes. There is a sculpture garden for you to stroll around and a specific area dedicated to photography. If you're lucky, you may get a chance to participate in elite events like the Portland International Film Festival.

Lunch at 1:00pm

Time to take a lunch break and fuel up for the rest of the day. Stunning Victorian Style Mansion! Pittock Mansion at 2:30pm

You will love to explore this 22-room Victorian design mansion with early 20th century furnishings. The mansion was built by the publisher of the Oregonian newspape, Henry Pittock. Guided tours are available here, to give a narrative insights of the the 20th century high life. Make sure you stop by the gift shop to take home some unique handcrafted items.

Shopping at Washington Square Mall at 3:30pm

Your shopping list and desire will be well taken care in Washington Square Mall. There are varied merchandise stores and diverse options to explore. The focal point here is that, you will also find the Oregon's largest Nordstrom, Portland's only Cheesecake Factory and the only Brighton Jewelry Stores. If you can check out all the 170 specialty stores there.

Pioneer Courthouse Square at 5:30pm

Pioneer Courthouse Square is a plaza where you will find businesses in full swing and a cultural and shopping district. As you meander around, you will come across the 'weather machine', the waterfall fountain, and drop by the visitor's center and Pioneer Courthouse. The Square also play hosts to many events/concerts. You will also find farmer's market spring up here in Saturday or Sunday mornings.

Nightlife! Old Town Historic District at 11:00pm

To bask on city's thrilling nightlife scene, you must visit Old Town Historic District, adorned with Portland's chic and cool night clubs, like Barrel Room, Berbati's, The Crown Room, Roseland Theatre and Grill, Captain Ankeny's Well, The Boiler Room. You can also hang out by the Skidmore Fountain and soak in the original scenery of the city. Aside from the numerous sizzling nightlife venues, the district hosts many fun events and feasts.

Portland's Treasured Park! Washington Park at 9:30am

You can easily spend a full day or half a day here. Washington Park is considered Portland's best park, encompassing, the International Rose Test Garden, Japanese Garden, the Portland Children's Museum, the Oregon Zoo. The Rose Garden is made up of many gardens of roses combined together and have varieties of hybrid roses. While there, you must stop by the miniature rose garden, the Shakespeare Garden, the Gold Medal Garden. For some Zen-like tranquility, head to the Japanese Garden. There is an onsite Tea House to enjoy some great tea and you can relax and absorb the calmness of the place, while gazing at the city's view and Mount Hood. And of course, you cannot miss a visit to Oregon zoo, that is home to over 2000 animals from around the globe. And kids must have their share of fun and joy at Portland's Children's Museum.

Fancy exploring the world's largest independent bookstore? Visit Powell’s City of Books, covering an entire city block. The massive building houses over 1.5 million books in varied genre. You can use a map to help you navigate through the 9 color coded rooms. Grab your favorite book and while perusing your book, enjoy a cup of coffee at the in-store coffee shop.

Huge Forest within City Limits! Forest Park at 3:30pm

Explore Forest Park - 5100 acres of temperate rain forest within city limit. Get in your hiking boots, for you're in for some really adventurous expedition. The area is engulfed with dense flora, fauna and many hiking trails. Within the Forest Park Sanctuary, you will find a wildlife rehabilitation center and a bookstore.

Fabulously Flavored Beer! Hair of the Dog Brewing at 6.00pm

If you love beer, you ought to visit Hair of the Dog Brewing to taste some seriously unusual beer. Why unusual? The whole brewing cycle is completed inside the bottle and the beer are left to age like a fine wine i.e., 'bottle conditioned.' The end product is a fabulously flavored beer with high alcohol content. Stop by here and do the taste test yourself.

Upscale Neighborhood! Pearl District at 8:00pm

You must visit the upscale Pearl District to check up its top notch boutiques, art galleries, expensive lofts and trendy restaurants. Spend some time, hanging out and meandering by the beautiful Jamison Square Fountain. Try to make it there on the first Thursday of the month, when almost all of the area's art galleries stay open late and the district turns into cool street party atmosphere.

Dinner at 9:30 PM

Time to unwind and savor a delectable meal. Mediterranean Exploration Company (333 NW 13th Ave) is a delightful restaurant to feast on Mediterranean cuisine. Frankly, you would want to try everything there - Philo Chard Pie, Beef Bacon Wrapped Date, Grilled Octopus Salad, Moroccan Brick Chicken, grilled prawns, Lamb Ragu and there is a really long list to go on. For Italian fare, step in Piazza Italia (1129 NW Johnson St). Whether you order Linguine Squarciarella or Rigatoni Bolognese or Lasagna or La Burina - each platter will fully satiate your palate.


Dance Like a Star! Dance Clubs at 11:00 PM

End your fantastic day with a dance party at The Crown Room - the city's famous hip hop dance club. When you get tired, sit down and snack in some delicious snacks, sip a drink and listen to live music. Another good recommendation for the night is Lola's Room at the Crystal Ballroom. You can dance to your favorite classic 80s soundtracks in its floating floor. On Friday nights, you will find people all dressed up in 80's theme.
